After this, he worked for 2 years in Sir J.J.Group of Hospitals, Mumbai and Municipal Hospital, Mumbai and refined his skills acquired during residency in various fields like Trauma and Fracture surgeries, Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement. He was then invited for a Clinical Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Konkuk University Hospital, Seoul, South Korea. There he received training under Prof. Jin-Young Park in a wide variety of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroscopies, Shoulder Replacement and related surgeries.

He underwent further training in the Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai and Bombay Hospital, Mumbai for about 2 years. He mastered in the field of Arthroscopy of Knee and Shoulder, Hip Replacement Surgeries, Knee Replacement Surgery and Revision Knee Replacement. He then left for Germany for 6 month Fellowship training in Arcus Sport Clinic, Pforzheim, Germany under Dr. Andree Ellerman. Arcus Sport Clinic does the largest number of Arthroscopic Surgeries in Germany. Here he took advanced training in Arthroscopy, Joint Replacement Surgeries with special training in Sports Medicine and related surgery. He was also invited to present a paper in Hamburg, Germany for Knee Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Surgery. ​

After Returning from Germany, Dr. Merchant has started Private Practice, practicing as Orthopedic Surgeon, specialist in Arthroscopy of Knee and Shoulder, Total Knee Replacement Surgery and Trauma and Fracture Surgery. Patients with wide variety of Joint and bones problems have been successfully taking treatment from him.

He is affiliated to various hospitals in Mumbai and is a regular and active participant at professional conferences to keep his knowledge up-to-date.​ He undertakes Charitable clinics and camps in Mumbai regularly to serve the less fortunate section of the society.
